Emergency care

The health of your smile is our utmost priority

Experiencing an orthodontic emergency? We’re here for you! Our patients at Orthodontic Specialists of Lake County have access to a 24/7 emergency service with one of our highly experienced team members.

If you’re a patient and are currently in severe pain or have an issue you can’t take care of yourself - contact us.

For minor orthodontic concerns, we’ve listed some suggested solutions below to help you relieve discomfort until you can see us for your next appointment.

Loose brackets

If the bracket or band is still attached to the wire: leave it in place and put orthodontic wax on it (if needed) for added comfort.

If the band or spring is detached from the wire: kindly save your loose appliance in an envelope or container and bring it with you to your next appointment*.

*Please call us and leave a message about this concern to ensure adequate appointment time for repair.

Lost aligners

If you lose an aligner, or accidentally throw one away, don't panic. You can simply move to your next upper and lower aligner in your series as outlined by one of our doctors. Please call and inform the office when you have done this so we can update your records.

Poking wires

Using a pencil eraser, push the poking wire down (away from your gums or lips). You may also put some orthodontic wax on top of it to prevent rubbing or irritation before your next appointment.

General soreness

It’s normal to feel slight tenderness in your teeth after adjustment or fitting appointments. This should only last for three to five days. To relieve this, you may take an over-the-counter pain reliever or rinse your mouth with saltwater.

General soreness

Slight irritation

After fitting your appliance, you may experience some irritation on your cheeks, lips, or tongue. This normally only lasts for one to two weeks until your mouth adjusts to your braces. Simply put wax on your braces to lessen the friction.
